A perfect and cosy winter wedding for Catherine and Josh

Wintry wedding inspiration

It wasn’t just the clean crisp air and incredible panoramic views surrounding Heaton House Farm which captured the hearts of our engaged couple Catherine and Josh. Initially set on a spring wedding date, a wonderful tour and a flick through of pictures with the ever-enthusiastic Olivia sparked inspiration for their picturesque and cosy winter wedding.

‘As soon as we got back in the car, we both said we HAD to get married there at winter, it just felt so right’.

And that was it… ‘It was impossible not to fall in love with the venue after that’. With a trip to the fantastic Slaters’ Menswear in Manchester, it was the Scottish National Tartan which caught the eye of Josh, and after deliberating with the groomsmen they were all suited and booted with Kilts ready for the big day!

The morning before I do’s

On the wedding morning, the guys all enjoyed a delicious groom’s grazer to calm the nerves, especially for Josh, before waiting at the end of the aisle!

At 9am the pamper room was ready and waiting for Catherine and her bridal party to relax. Whilst they enjoyed a delicious bridal brunch, hair and makeup worked their magic! Both Sarah Meredith and Charlotte Rose, two of our recommended suppliers here at Heaton House Farm made the experience a dream for Catherine:

‘They are both so lovely and incredibly talented. I had a makeup and hair trial a few weeks before the wedding where both were so kind and more than happy to change things to ensure I was 100% happy for the day’.

Then it was time for Catherine to put on her stunning dress from Bridal belles’ boutique in Frodsham who were so incredible from start to finish that she said yes to the dress in that first shop! The bridesmaid dresses included deep red tones and white fluffy boleros tying in with the tartan and wintry style perfectly. And with that it was time to soak up the last few moments before the ‘I Do’s’!

Adorned with fairy lights and flowers to match the bouquets by Laura at Green Earth Flowers, the rustic beams created that perfect look for their intimate ceremony with guests eagerly celebrating the newly married Mrs and Mrs Broadhurst. After signing the register and walking back down the aisle to ‘Come Together’ by the Beatles; Catherine, Josh and their guests’ enjoyed photographs captured by Kyle Hassall giving everybody a chance to catch up and celebrate the joining of the two families!

Meanwhile, it was time for a wonderful selection of reception drinks and canapes including crispy onion bhaji with mango chutney, flatbread croute with hummus onion chutney, sundried tomato arancini and vine cherry tomato bruschetta.

With Lee Gordon performing a beautiful set in the background, the atmosphere was just perfect, and the spirits were high!

Intimate wedding breakfast and sublime speeches

With the chosen Scottish National tartan theme taking centre stage to honour Josh’s Scottish ancestry, the couple decided on warm and wintry colours tying in the deep navy base and red tones for the dining room. The simple family-orientated oval table to seat all guests created the intimate wedding breakfast style which both Catherine and Josh had always dreamt of! The warm-toned floral displays, bouquets, and table decorations as well as pinecones scattered amongst candles created the simplest yet perfect backdrop to simulate the rustic and cosy winter atmosphere.

Then it was time to enjoy the delicious 3-course meal by our incredible in-house caterers, Stableyard Catering including cream of roast chicken and fine herb soup with confit chicken, the braised beef bourguignon, shallots, smoked bacon lardons served with button mushrooms in a red wine jus and a Bramley apple tarte, tatin sultana and brandy custard.

Then it was the time to toast Mr and Mrs Broadhurst with speeches from the father of the bride Henry, Josh and best man James, with laughter and tears shed all around before the cutting of the most stunning cake from Linda at Buttercup Cakes.

A magical evening reception full of surprises

At 7pm the evening reception kicked off with a competitive Mr and Mrs Game for Catherine and Josh to test how well they really know each other followed by some hilarious and puzzling card tricks performed by magician Sam Fitton. As a lovely and unexpected surprise for Josh, it was one of the highlights of the night leaving guests in fits of laughter!

In Catherine’s case, her trainers were the perfect dancing shoe choice for their first dance as a married couple and then onto the dancefloor for more incredible music by Lee Gordon.

All that dancing was hungry work, but luckily Stableyard Spuds was served at 9pm to keep everybody’s energy up to celebrate well into the night!

Josh and Catherine had the most fabulous wedding day with us, and we are so delighted to have received some incredible feedback from them on the best moments of their day!

‘It’s so hard to choose one moment because the whole day was so special and a collection of so many moments that made it perfect’.

Their top tips for future couples planning their wedding day are to ‘plan early and do what you want to do, don’t let other people push their ideas onto you because it’s your day. Just take it all in, it’s the most special day so enjoy it together!’
