At the start of this month, we joined dozens of other amazing rural businesses at The Last Drop Village in Bolton for a very special awards ceremony – celebrating the wonderful contribution that companies based in rural areas make to the economy.
We’d been lucky enough to be shortlisted for The Most Outstanding Rural Diversification Project and were looking forward to a wonderful night with colleagues, friends and fellow nominees.
We managed to finish work early on Tuesday afternoon and hopped into the car to head North. Bolton wasn’t too far away up the M6 – but the traffic wasn’t great.
It meant that by the time we arrived, we had just 15 minutes to check into our room and get ready for the party.
Thankfully, we know how to get ready in a hurry and still look amazing! Mick donned his red bow tie, whilst Margaret, Sarah and Olivia all got into their stunning attire.
After a champagne reception, we headed into the dining room for a delicious three course meal – surrounded by some great décor and joined by some great company.
We were sharing our table with some amazing guys from Hillsgreen Marketing Consultants, a company we work very closely with.
After the meal, it was time for the awards – and there was a lot to get through! It was wonderful to see so many different rural businesses, from so many different sectors, recognised for all their hard work.
We were up against some really great competition, and unfortunately, we didn’t win. But we’ve been extremely successful in our diversification for several years now, and the award went to a company who has only just diversified in their offering this year. It was well deserved.
Our category was the 2ndlargest in terms of entrants, and we were so proud to make it into the final five.
But Hillsgreen did win an award in their category for Best Professional Services, so there were big celebrations on our table!
Once all the awards were handed out, we headed outside to get some pictures with all the winners and shortlisted nominees. We like to do things differently at Heaton House Farm, so we were encouraging everyone to take some Boomerang videos for Instagram – not just a normal picture.
After that, it was time to party with everyone and celebrate what it means to be a rural business.
There were so many different businesses that offered so many different things, it was great to mingle and talk to all of them, learning about what they do and seeing how we might be able to work together in the future!
All in all – it was a great night!
